Domaine du Château Massereau – Barsac (Gironde)
About 30 kilometres to the southeast of Bordeaux, three towers stand guard over the rows of vines that stretch down to the Ciron River: Château Massereau, the former hunting lodge of the Dukes of Epernon that dates back to the 16th century has come into view.
The Chaigneau brothers purchased this concern in 2000 and now rule over 19 hectares, 14 of which boast an AOC: Barsac, Graves and Bordeaux Supérieur.
The kings of this castle have one single word to their motto: authenticity.
And it is here that they relentlessly pursue their dream of a quality that is equal to their passion: absolute.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sémillon and Muscadelle: red or white wines, the grapes are processed in small quantities whilst observing the greatest respect for nature throughout all the growing and production stages.
The grapes are harvested by hand in baskets, crates and wooden vats after a meticulous sorting process. The wine production process is then a matter of following traditional methods to perfection. The result is a selection of natural wines with a magnificent character where chaptalisation, acidification, filtering, modern concentration or enrichment techniques are conspicuous by their absence.
Haute Couture with a collection in which certain bottles, such as the 2007 Sauternes Barsac, have dethroned the undisputed masters such as Yquem.
Rob offers you a selection with great potential that are ideal for laying down – unique and exclusive in Belgium: the favourites of Jérémie Claes, our cellar master!
